MEET THE TEAM
Johnno Surdam
Johnno has spent the last 16 years in the building industry, cultivating a passion for the built environment—specifically, merging design with progressive building practices. Johnno’s formative career with the nation’s oldest and largest builder, Turner Construction Company, set an occupational foundation, which is evident in his ability to lead, manage, and coordinate all phases of multiple projects from pre-construction through closeout.
Over the last decade, Johnno has leveraged his industry experience to manage the world’s best design firms and contractors to deliver high-end residential projects in properties in Napa, San Francisco, and Tahoe, California; Hawaii, Montana, Wyoming, and Nicaragua.
In his free time, Johnno gets outside as much as possible with his love for surfing, skiing, biking, and gathering with friends and family.
Johnno has an MBA from Presidio Graduate School (San Francisco, CA) and a BSBA from the University of Denver.
Devin Denman
Devin joins the team with a diverse background in the industry and enthusiasm for efficient project management. Bringing six years of experience as an owner’s representative on multi-unit housing projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Devin’s field management equipped her to understand the complexities of multi-stakeholder projects and the benefits of third-party oversight to maintain budget and schedule goals.
More recently, Devin re-immersed in academia, studying architecture at Rural Studio and working in the field for a small contractor in Montana.
Outside of work, Devin enjoys being outdoors, sewing, and tending her garden.
Josh Butkus
Joshua spent over 20 years developing the skills and experience necessary to conceptualize and actualize projects that reach beyond the everyday. His passion for creating and making was inspired by his family of architects, engineers, and master carpenters and nurtured through his formal education and professional ventures in design and construction. Josh has an aptitude for complex project collaboration and combines his diverse background and personal passion to deliver functional and beautiful results.
When he's not hustling for his clients and his team, Josh can be found on the ocean or in the mountains with his family and friends.
Josh has a BARCH from Boston Architectural College.
Matt Kay
Matt brings substantial experience in real estate development to his role in the owner’s representation field, including more than 10 years with the real estate development firm Millennium Partners. During his tenure, Matt was an integral part of a small, dynamic team that delivered over $4 billion in real estate investments to Downtown Boston. His primary focus was transforming complex urban parcels into landmark, mixed-use, high-
rise developments. Matt specializes in guiding these projects from inception to completion, with expertise in construction oversight, quality control, and client delivery.
With a proven track record of delivering more than 1,000 high-end condominiums across the competitive Boston and San Francisco markets, Matt excels at balancing time and cost efficiency with exceptional quality and owner satisfaction.
In his free time, Matt stays active through rock climbing, jiu-jitsu, weightlifting, and skating with his wife and two kids.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
Maddie Martin
Maddie joins the Alpine team with a genuine passion for the industry and extensive experience in managing teams and leading business-critical projects. Maddie spent seven years as a senior marketing manager in a fast-paced organization, creating and implementing processes that supported teams cross-functionally.
With a strong ability to identify opportunities for efficiency, Maddie firmly believes that clear communication coupled with a simple but effective process can completely change the way teams function and produce results. As a former college athlete, Maddie has a team player mindset and loves to collaborate with her colleagues.
Maddie spends her free time exploring all things health and wellness. She loves the outdoors, and depending on the season, you can find her skiing, backpacking, or jumping in any body of water she can find.
Maddie has a BA in Visual Merchandising with a focus on Interior Architecture and Design.
Fergie Rains
Fergie joins the team with a passion for beautiful, practical design as a tool to connect people and places. She brings her background as an architect, working in both the public and private sector, most recently in high-end residential in Jackson Hole, WY, where she calls home. Her studies at Auburn University's Rural Studio led to merging construction, architecture, and research, culminating in a built structure and a published peer-reviewed scientific journal article.
Fergie values interdisciplinary knowledge as a tool for bringing cohesion to a project, resulting in a collaborative team environment and quality projects. When out of the office, she is usually found exploring the outdoors on her bike or skiing her way through the Tetons.
Fergie has a BARCH and an MS in Architecture with a focus on Public Interest Design, both from Auburn University.
Nick Bascom
With over 10 years of experience in the construction industry and a BS in Civil Engineering, Nick started his career working on large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the Chicagoland area. His journey then took him west to the mountains, where he discovered his true passion for high-end residential construction, collaborating with expert craftsmen and providing meticulous attention to detail.
Nick brings strategic planning and proactive problem-solving that drives every project. He possesses in-depth knowledge of field operations, budgeting, and scheduling across both general and specialty contracting, allowing him to deliver results that aim to exceed expectations.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys all things mountain life—whether it's hiking, skiing, or simply appreciating the natural beauty of the outdoors.
Dave Demaray
With over 30 years in the construction industry, Dave has an extensive background in cost estimating, project management, and leadership both on the general contractor and owner’s representative sides. Most of his time has been dedicated to pre-construction and cost estimation. Dave is motivated to optimize systems and processes using technology to allow teams to be as efficient as possible while maintaining high standards.
In his free time, Dave enjoys surfing, biking, the mountains, and family time.
Dave has a General Contractors License and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
Thea Atkins
Thea is a dedicated integrator who helps leaders streamline their operations, manage projects, and optimize their time allocation. She has experience working with small business owners to improve their sales, marketing, and internal systems. Thea’s mission is to ensure that every detail behind the scenes supports the success of the Alpine team and their client projects.
Outside of work, Thea is a holistic health enthusiast and loves to surf, hike, and spend time with family.
Thea holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bennington College in Vermont.
Pat Curley
Pat began his career with an international accounting firm and has over 40 years of financial and operational
management experience in a variety of industries. As a former senior executive, business owner, and venture capitalist, Pat is uniquely qualified to provide all aspects of back-office support to free up the team to do what they do best—manage client projects!
In his spare time, Pat enjoys spending time with his six grandchildren, an occasional round of golf, and visiting the
many excellent wineries in Napa and Sonoma valleys.
Pat is a licensed CPA in Texas and earned a BBA in Accounting from Angelo State University.
